Zohran Mamdani’s New York mayor win drew major interest—but what made his campaign strategy so effective?
The DM Palestine Network and the Degrowth Network at Copenhagen University have organized a conversation with Professor Fabian Holt and climate activist Esther Michelsen Kjeldahl to discuss hybrid organizing strategies. In his recent book Organize or Burn Fabian Holt maps the strategy behind Democratic Socialists of America and examines how social justice movements can succeed in bringing issues into the institutional arena and achieve political influence.
Esther Michelsen Kjeldahl is an active part of the recent initiative Jordskred building a broad grassroots coalition to challenge parliamentary power balances. Are the hybrid organizing strategies transferable to the Danish context?
Join us for a discussion that merges theory and practice and explore new forms of organizing.
The speakers:
Fabian Holt: Professor at the Department of Communication, Roskilde University. He is the author of Organize or Burn, in which he offers an analysis of the organizational strategy behind the NYC Democratic Socialists of America and Zohran Mamadani’s campaign.
Esther Michelsen Kjeldahl: Philosopher and seasoned climate activist. She is one of the founders of Den Grønne Ungdomsbevægelse and Fossilfri Fremtid. She is currently a central figure in Jordskred building a Danish grassroots alliance. She is also the author of Vi er sammen om at mærke det and has co-authored the two books Retfærdig Naturbevarelse and Reklamemagt.
The event is open to everyone.
The event is a collaboration between the DM Palestine Network and Degrowth Network at Copenhagen University
