The grant supports field studies, study trips, study stays, and other travel-related activities that are connected to your bachelor's or master's degree programme. You may receive funding for both domestic and international stays.
Who Can Apply for DM's Travel grant
As a student member of DM, you are eligible to apply for our travel grant. The grant supports travel-related activities such as field studies, study trips, exchange or study stays, and internships in Denmark and abroad.
A study stay, internship, or field study abroad can provide you with valuable new knowledge and experiences that you can bring back with you. During a stay outside Denmark, you may have the opportunity to engage with leading academic environments from around the world. In many of the jobs you may pursue after graduation, strong English skills and the ability to work with people from different backgrounds are highly valued. An international stay gives you the opportunity to develop both of these competencies.
You do not need to travel abroad to be eligible for the grant. You may also undertake a study stay, internship, or field study elsewhere in Denmark. Such an experience can inspire you, help you identify new opportunities for development, and provide valuable experience and a fresh perspective on your studies.
Practical Information
You may apply for funding of up to DKK 8,000. The total annual grant fund for 2026 is DKK 150,000, which is distributed twice a year in allocations of DKK 75,000.
The travel grant is awarded twice annually. If you are awarded a grant, your trip or study stay must be completed within one year of receiving the funding.
If your trip or stay is cancelled, we expect you to return the awarded funds to DM.
Criteria for the Travel Grant
To be eligible for the travel grant, you must meet the following criteria:
- You must be a member of DM. If you are not already a member, you can join DM. Membership is free for the first year and costs DKK 20 per month thereafter.
- You must be able to document that the stay or trip is directly related to your studies.
- We may contact you to ask whether you would be willing to share photos and content from your trip on DM’s social media channels.
- The duration of the stay or trip must not exceed six months.
- In addition, we do not provide funding for activities that replace regular teaching, for study-related activities that have previously been funded by the university, or for activities that students are required to participate in as part of their programme.
Application Requirements and Supporting Documents
Below are the seven requirements that your application must meet. It is important that you comply with all requirements in order to be considered for the travel grant.
- The application must be completed online.
- A statement of purpose (motivational letter) of no more than one A4 page must be attached.
- The application must include a statement from a programme director, lecturer, supervisor, or a pre-approval document confirming that the trip is relevant to your studies.
- You must provide proof of enrolment showing that you are currently enrolled in a relevant degree programme.
- The application must include a budget outlining the costs of the trip/stay and how you intend to finance them. You do not need to upload documentation such as tickets, booking confirmations, or similar materials—only a budget of no more than one A4 page.
- The written application must specify any other grants or scholarships that you have applied for or received.
- The application and all supporting documents combined must not exceed six pages in total and must be uploaded as PDF files.
Applications or supporting documents submitted after the deadline will not be considered. Likewise, applications that do not comply with all seven requirements will not be eligible for consideration.
For, among other reasons, tax regulations, you may only apply on your own behalf. If several people are participating in the same trip, each person must submit a separate application.
Please note that if your stay or trip takes place within Denmark, the grant is considered taxable income. You are therefore responsible for notifying the Danish Tax Agency (Skattestyrelsen) that you have received the grant.
How to Apply for the Travel Grant
You must always apply for funding before commencing your trip or stay.
Autumn Semester (September – January)
- Application period: 1 June – 1 September
- Application deadline: No later than 1 September
- Applies to trips where the majority of the stay takes place during the autumn semester.
Spring Semester (February – August)
- Application period: 1 November – 1 February
- Application deadline: No later than 1 February
- Applies to trips where the majority of the stay takes place during the spring semester.
Decision on Your Application
You can expect to receive a decision approximately one month after the application deadline.
